RMP-D8
8-Channel Dante® Mic Preamp + Converter
OVERVIEW / MEDIA / FEATURES / REVIEWS / SPECS & RESOURCES
The massive weight & tone of classic Rupert Neve Designs studio microphone preamps: now available on your network.
For many years, the world’s leading live sound engineers have chosen Rupert Neve Designs as some of the only analog equipment to accompany their digital touring rigs. With mastering-grade 24-bit 192kHz converters and full Dante integration, the RMP-D8 finally offers the live sound world something that studios have always coveted: the sound of Rupert Neve Designs.
Legendary Rupert Neve Tone
The heart of the RMP-D8 lies in the modular mic preamp cards featuring Mr. Rupert Neve’s custom transformer designs. Unlike other integrated Dante mic preamp designs that rely primarily on a single IC for gain & tone, the RMP-D8 has eight fully-realized class-A microphone preamplifiers feeding eight custom audio transformers, maintaining the high standards of Rupert Neve Designs’ standalone preamplifiers.
“Changing my front end to this pre-amp has given me everything back. Warm deep low end, rich mid-range, smooth clear top end. Punch, Clarity. The difference is mind blowing…it’s like having a different console.”
Mastering-Grade Conversion
Where converters are often an afterthought on combination devices, the 24-bit/192kHz converters in the RMP-D8 are a product of years of careful listening.
The precision controlled internal clocking and enhanced jitter reduction enable capture of the full breadth of performance from the mic preamplifiers or the line inputs; with the RMP-D8, there is no weak link in the audio path.
“One word…Astonishing. Changed the clarity, depth, air, and tonal shape of my mix. Really glad I spent the money.”
IRON MAIDEN, JAY-Z, LINKIN PARK, JUSTIN BIEBER
The New Dante Standard
Dante audio networking uses standard IP networks to transmit high-quality, uncompressed audio with near-zero latency. It’s the most flexible, reliable, and easy-to-manage audio networking solution available, and provides the lowest cost of ownership by dramatically reducing cabling and labor costs. Dante is the audio networking choice of nearly all professional audio manufacturers, making it the industry standard for digital audio networking.
The RMP-D8 is also fully DDM (Dante Domain Manager) Ready.
All in all, the RMP-D8 brings the classic sound of Rupert Neve Designs into the Dante-connected world.

REVIEWS
“One word…Astonishing. Changed the clarity, depth, air, and tonal shape of my mix. Really glad I spent the money.”
“Also…how’s this for an endorsement. We had the rack with two RMP-D8’s accidentally get pushed off the front of a 10 foot stage at the last gig. It fell face-first and there was no damage to the units. The UPS in the case was damaged and the case itself was damaged but the RND units are fine. We fired it up today and the both are working just fine after a ten foot drop! I guess it passes the high-school ‘drop an egg from the roof’ test. Lol.”

Iron Maiden, Jay-Z, Linkin Park, Justin Bieber
“The RMP-D8 sounded better than everything we compared it to. The Rupert Neve products have been essential to get the sound I was looking for…I fully credit where my career is at right now with the use of these products.”
Toby Francis
Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ariana Grande, Katy Perry, ZZ Top
“I've been recording orchestras and large ensembles live or in the studio for over 2 decades. The RMP-D8 is the only recording device that can deliver the sound of a large format console and mastering grade converters all in one box.”
Misha Kachkachishvili, Esplanade Studios
Jon Batiste, Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, Terence Blanchard
“The RMP-D8 is pretty exceptional. Changing my front end to this pre-amp has given me everything back. Warm deep low end, rich mid-range, smooth clear top end. Punch, Clarity. The difference is mind blowing…it’s like having a different console.”

“The microphone preamplifier will live up to the announcement of providing Rupert Neve Sound with punchy and present-day presence for live sound.”
Erol Ergün / Proaudio.de
“The RMP-D8 A to D sounds fantastic. Crystal clear, focused. Exactly what I’d expect from Rupert Neve.”
Pete Lyman
Chris Stapleton, Jason Isbell, Weezer
“The Rupert Neve Designs gear has been the backbone for recording Dream Theater’s new record. Having recorded on vintage Rupert Neve consoles throughout my career, working with the Shelfords and RMP-D8s has been a very familiar experience. The RMP-D8 sounds and feels like a classic Rupert Neve console to me.”
James Meslin
Dream Theater
"With the RMP, acoustic guitars and vocals were clean, and clear, and all the buzz words everybody likes to use about fancy preamps...but in our world, it just sounded right. It was amazing. Very easy to get the mix where we wanted it."
Aaron Hedden
Keb’ Mo’, Taylor Guitars
“As expected, there was plenty of headroom even for a musician who really hits his drums hard and the results were precisely what I’ve come to expect from Rupert Neve Designs–full, solid and with a touch of colour that never gets in the way of clarity.”
Stephen Bennett / Audio Media International
“What I heard was a significant improvement over my console’s onboard preamps and converters. I noted in many cases that I was using my EQ’s less, especially on vocal channels…I heard and felt the difference immediately. The RMP-D8 sounded absolutely fantastic.”

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
No; because of the remote control design and the highly custom transformer design feeding the converters, the RMP is a unique preamplifier. The harmonic content from the transformer (essentially integrated Silk) is loosely based on Rupert’s mic preamps from the 1970s.
No; you can use Audinate’s Dante Virtual Sound Card application to get the RMP-D8’s signal into a computer. For the best latency performance however, we recommend having a Dante-enabled mixer or using a dedicated Dante / Computer interface to lower the latency for cue mixes when needed.
This playlist includes five setup videos explaining different ways to connect the RMP-D8: as a standalone device, with a Yamaha console, and with interfaces from AVID, Burl, and Universal Audio:
We recommend following Audinate’s guidelines for network design. You can find out more here: https://www.audinate.com/support/networks-and-switches
Yes; you can use AES 67 compatibility mode in Dante controller as a way to bridge between Dante and other AOIP destinations with some limitations. You may also be able to use a hardware bridge. However, the RMP-D8 remote control application will only work over Dante.
It is likely the RMP is not on the same subnet mask as the computer. Download this RMP-D8 Network Configuration Guide for help with this.
